EXTENDS TO ALL RANKS NEW OUTLOOK URGED WOMAN DOCTOR’S APPEAL (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. "A spirit of moral anarchy is abroad in New Zealand to-day, and it must be faced and fought by the people themselves. Our legislators cannot do it for us. Moreover, in a democracy, it is unreasonable for the minority to clamour for amended legislation. The only logical thing to do is to build up slowly and methodically an overwhelming vote of sane and cleanthinking citizens so that those who govern will feel impelled to legislate accordingly.”

With these words, Dr. Doris Gordon, of Stratford, referred to the evils and dangers of abortion and urged members of the Wellington League of Mothers to work for the better state of affairs, when addressing members of the league to-day. It was fitting that a society that was constituted to uphold the sanctity of marriage and the best traditions of parenthood should be in the forefront of those who were studying and planning to fight the grave social evil that had been revealed in New Zealand, she said. The primary purpose of her address was educational, as education of the leaders, groups and individuals always had to precede a social reform.

“I desire you to grasp the extent of the subtleties and the secret ramifications of this evil,” she said. “I wish you to know that it is entrenched behind financial interests and that its temptations extend to all ranks of society.”
