HOTEL DESTROYED
EARLY MORNING FIRE bulk of stock saved (Por Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, last night. The Railway Hotel at Otautau was destroyed by fire which broke out at 2.30 a.m." this morning. It was a wooden building over 50 years old and contained 17 rooms. The fire started in the kitchen and spread rapidly. The proprietor, Mr. K. McKenzie, and his wife were awakened by tlie noise and found the passages full of smoke. Witli their children they were able to escape only in their night attire. By the time that others had been summoned, nothing could be done to save the building. The helpers were successful, however, in confining the blaze to one building. The bulk store and stable were saved and the bulk of the stock was also removed to safety by a band of workers.
