CLYDEBANK SETTLERS
POWER SUPPLY NEEDED BOARD CONSIDERS REQUEST (TlrrnM Correspondent.) At yesterday’s meeting of the Wairoa Power Board a letter was read from the chief electrical engineer, in reference to the proposed electric line extension to Clydebank settlement, stating that he had pointed out to the Minister that the electric supply account was not in a position legally or financially to grant any subsidies towards the cost of erecting rural lines: that the Minister had stated his intention of investigating the present system and no doubt would make a pronouncement. With this was read another letter, asking for the board s comment on the suggestion that a guarantee of 15 per cent per annum on the cost of erecting supply lines to Clydebank settlement be accepted by the board. It, was understood that the department held that in practice it was not now necessary to demand 20 per cent, but 15 per cent guarantee. The secretary said the former condition was set out in the Order-in-Council authorising the last loan. After some discussion it was decided to reply what the Order-in-Council specified. Mr. H. L. Harker suggested the giving of a notice of motion to provide lor an amendment that the guarantee be based on actual interest paid, sinking fund, and depreciation, plus cost of current. Mr. Harker suggesting that otherwise the small man was being penalised. After further discussion it was decided to refer Air. Barker s suggestion to the works committee to go into the matter and report by next meeting.
