INFANTILE PARALYSIS

MELBOURNE CASES ONE CHILD SUCCUMBS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) MELBOURNE, July 12. During the last three weeks 12 cases of infantile paralysis have been reported in Melbourne. One child has died and one'is so severely paralysed that it has been placed in a respirator in the Children’s Hospital.

Investigations into the causes of the epidemic since the first case was reported indicate that all the cases have a common source. All have occurred in one part of the metropolitan area.

The medical officer says that no useful purpose can be served by closing the schools in the district. Parents who wished to keep their children at home could do so.
