WEEK-END GOLF

GISBORNE PARK CLUB SERIES FURTHER ADVANCED GOOD RUN ON THE LINKS Conditions on the links of the Gisborne Park Golf Club were good during the week-end and several members expressed the opinion, that there was a run on the fairways that was usual only in summer weather. The competitions were advanced a further stage. After a keen match the holders of the Dryland Challenge Cup were able to retain the trophy until the competition next week. The draw for the President’s; Cup will be placed on the notice board at the clubhouse during the week and players are asked to play these matches at their earliest convenience.

This was the third round of the handicap series and the semi-finals will be played at the players own convenience. Dryland Challenge Cup A; D. Tarr and L. L.' Winter again successfully withstood a challenge by J. Haisman and K. C. Everett, one up. This was . the . third match the partners have withstood and it is apparent that it will be difficult to break their grip on the trophy. Bogey Competition

The second round of the D.C.L. Cup will be played next Saturday and there will be also a Stableford bogey competition in conjunction with the first round of play for the Russell Cup. The latter cup is to be won outright with the best aggregate of points for three Stableford bogey competitions, to be played on July 17, August 8, and September 4.

POVERTY BAY CLUB TOURNAMENT FINALS CUP TO 1). \Y. .McKEAGLE The championship qualifying rounds were the feature of the series in progress during the week-end on the links of the Poverty Bay Golf Club. Interest was also attached to the finals of the Reynolds’ Cup and tournament events. The cup was won by D. W. McKeague (14), who beat N. 11. Bull (4), 2 and 1, and the tournament went to W. D. Armstrong CD when he beat W. D. Barker (4), 1 up.

Of the three qualifying rounds to be played for the men’s club championship the first was played at the weekend and the best gross scores were at follow: —F. Fenwick, 75; D. B. Barry. 78; W. D. TURANGANUICLUB UIIAMPIONSHIP ROUXDS Two rounds of the men’s championship of the Turanganui Golf Club were completed during the week-end on the Tuoi links and though the conditions were good there were no exceptional scores results were:—

First round.—R. Keiha won by default from B. Halbert; P. Keiha beat H. Kiwi, 2 and 1; R. Halbert beat J. Koria, 5 and 3; T. T. Rangi won by default from D. Halbert; P. Kaua beat L. Fade, 1 up; W. T. Rangi beat G. Butler, 1 up at the eighteenth; T. Halbert beat G. M. Chrisp, 2 and 1; PTureia beat P. Awatere, 5 and 4. Second round. —R. Keiha beat P Keiha, 3 and 2; R. W. Halbert beat T. Rangi, (i and 5; W. T. Rangi beat P. Kaua, 1 up; P. Tureia beat T. Halbert 2 and 1.

Officials of the club expect to have the series advanced a further stage next week-end and are confident that the four semi-finalists will produce good ; golf in their efforts to gain a cup victory. A Stableford bogey competition was played also during the week-end, resulting in a win for R. Robb (18) with a score of 33. The runner-up was P Kaua (9) with 30 points.
