EUROPEAN ZONE FINAL GERMANS BEAT CZECHS BERLIN, June 10. Germany won the European zone final of the Davis Cup matches, defeating Czechoslovakia by three matches to two love. Following their respective wins in the singles games Von Cramm and Henkel were successful in the doubles, defeating Hecht and Caska, 6—l, 6 —2, 10—12, 6—o,
Menzel injured an arm and Caska substituted for him.
AUSTRALIANS DEFEATED TOURNEY IN PARIS (Rccr. July 12, 11 a.m.) PARIS, July 11. The Australians lost the tennis tourney with the French team. Details of the play yesterday and to-day following the opening games on Friday are: — Singles.—Bromwich defeated Merlin, 4—6, 6—3, 6 —4; Destremeau beat McGrath, 6 —4, 6 —4; Petra beat Sproule, 9—7, B—6; McGrath defeated Boussus, 4—6, 6 —2, 6—3; Crawford defeated Destremeau, 6 —3, 6 —2. Doubles.—Crawford and McGrath defeated Destremeau and Boussus, 6 —3, 6 —3, 6 —B, 6 —4; Brugnon ’ and Boussus defeated Bromwich and Sproule, 6 —l, 6 —2, 2 —6, 6 —o.
