GERMANS WIN SINGLES von cramm: EXTENDED (Reed. Julv 10, 12.30 p.m.) BERLIN. July 0. Playing in the final of the European zone of the Davis Cup elimination series, Henkel (Germany) defeated Hecht (Czechoslovakia), G —l. 7 —5, 7 —5, and von Cramm (Germany) defeated Menzel (Czechoslovakia), 3 —G, 4—6, 6—4, G—3, 6—2. Von Cramm apparently was nervy. Nothing came off the opening sets. He netted the majority of Menzel's drives, but after that the German reached form and served many aces, Menzel cracking up.

STEDMAN ELIMINATED MIDLAND TITLE PLAY (Reed. July 10, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 9. In the semi-finals of the singles in the Midland Counties tennis championships, David defeated the New Zealander, A. C. Stedman, G—4, G —B, 6-4.

MATCH WITH FRANCE AUSTRALIAN TOURISTS (Reed. Julv 10, 12.30 p.m.) PARIS, July 9. The Australian tennis players today began a match against France. Tn singles play. Marlin defeated Sproule, 6—4, 6—3: Bromwich defeated Petra, G—2. 3—6, 6 —3; Boussus defeated Crawford, G —2, 4—6, 7 —5. In the doubles, Bernard and Petra defeated Bromwich and Sproule. 4—6, 3—G, 6—4, 6—3, 7—5.

HUGHES WITHDRAWS REPLACED BY WILDE (Reed. July 10, 12.30 p.m.) * LONDON, July 9. It is announced that the British player, Hughes, has withdrawn from the Davis Cup team owing to a breakdown due to strain and over-exertion. Wilde replaces him.
