WAIROA RUGBY

COUNTY SUB-UNION REPRESENTATIVE FIXTURES (Herald Correspondent.) At the weekly meeting of the Wairoa County Rugby Sub-union those present were Messrs. F. H. Mardon, chairman, R. Goodlcy, R. M. McDonald, B. Parkinson, P. Bates, A. Mudgeway, L. Gay, C. Hall, and the hon. secretary, Mr. C. Stone. An apology for absence was received from Mr. W. Brownlie. Advice was received that the Poverty Bay union agreed to a primary schools representative match as a curtain-raiser to the junior Barry Cup fixture in Gisborne on July 31. It was announced that the Napier High School Old Boys third grade team would play the Wairoa third grade representatives as the preliminary to the senior Barry Cup game in Wairoa on July 31. Mr. B. Parkinson was appointed coselector for the junior representatives, and in connection with the entertainment of the visiting teams the name of Mr. R. M. McDonald was added to the entertainment committee. A grant of £1 Is was made to the Teachers’ Sports Association jersey fund. It was decided to instruct the secretary to write to all clubs asking them to return cups and trophies at their earliest convenience. A report from Mr. Hall stated that the Wairoa Municipal Band was willing to assist the sub-union with the two senior fixtures towards the end of the month by supplying a musical programme. Gate charges for Saturday were fixed at a fiat rate of Gd to all parts of the [ground, the stand being left open to the public. It was decided to nominate J. Brownlie R. Goodley, and J. Peebles for selection in the Hawke’s Bay junior representative team. Saturday’s Matches Following is the draw for the competition matches on Saturday afternoon:— Seniors. —Wliakaki v. Hikurangi, on Wilson’s ground, Opoutama, at 2.45 p.m.; Old Bovs v. Nuhaka, at Nuhaka ground, at 2.45 p.m.; Waipapa and Mahia, a bye. Juniors. —Waiau v. Takutai-Moana, on Wairoa No. 1 ground, at 2.45 p.m.: Old Boys v. Pirates, on Wairoa No. 2 ground, at 2.45 p.m.: Druids v. Mamma, on Nuhaka ground at 1.30 p.m.: Waipapa, a bye.

Thirds. —Pirates v. Old Boys, on Wairoa No. 1 ground, at 1.30 p.m.; Eastern Schools v. Western Schools for the Te Ito Cup at Nuhaka ground at 12.30 p.m. Wairoa Senior Representatives The following senior Rugby players have been selected for training in view of the matches against Napier-Hast-ings and Poverty Bay at the end of the month:—

Forwards.—Lewis, Kahukura, Bartlett, IT. Hook, R. Powdrell, P. Smith, S. Kahukura, Hamilton, Renata Spooner, Atkins, and Gourlav.

Backs.-Christy, W. Powdrell, S. Smith, Mackenzie, Brady, P. Te Ngaio, O’Connor, Whaanga, T. Hook, Bong and Pnkimana.

Primary School Representatives The following schoolboys have been selected to represent the western end of the district against the eastern next Saturday at Nuhaka for the To Ito Cup:—

Forwards. —Taunoa (F), Lambert (F), Compton iF), Paku (W), Beattie (W>, Watson (W>, Harvey (W), and Folev (C).
