PROVIDING EMPLOYMENT
AFFORESTATION PLAN FIVE•• YEAR PROGR AMME (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. With the dual object of removing unemployed men from sustenance and placing them in full-time employment and of creating national assets for future generations, the Commissioner of State Forests, the Hon. F. Langstone, has under consideration a fiveyear afforestation plan. The Minister said to-day that he had asked the director of forestry to bring down a five-year plan and to ascertain what Crown lands were not suitable for ordinary pastoral or agricultural purposes with a view to having them transferred to the Foresty Department, either as provisional or permanent State Forests. It was then intended to go forward with planting operations according to a proper plan.
