GRIEVANCE WITH BOARD

TRAMWAY EMPLOYEES INQUIRY AT AUCKLAND (Pur Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Grievances which the Auckland tramway employees consider they have with the Auckland Transport Board were ventilated at a meeting of tlie Auckland Representation Committee last week and a resolution was carried favouring the setting up of a committee of three “to inquire into the un-Labour-like attitude of the board and the existing relationships between the board and the Tramway Union.” It is understood that several members of the Transport Board, including the chairman, the Hon. H. G. RMason, attended the meeting and that Mr. Mason addressed the meeting and answered questions. A committee of investigation has been set up consisting of Mr. F. G. Young, secretary of the Hotel Workers’ Union as chairman, Mr. H. Campbell, secretary of the Painters’ Union, and Mr, C. Matthews. It is understood that the parties involved in the dispute which has arisen in the inner ranks of the Labour movement will be invited to present their respective cases at a propertly-constituted inquiry. Meantime it is stated that the union is being requested to state the charges in writing. The exact nature of the union’s grievance is not known. When seen this morning, the secretary of the Tramway Employees’ Union, Mr. J. Liddell, declined to discuss the matter. “I have nothing whatever to say,” he declared.
