RADIO LICENSES
LARGE INCREASE IN YEAR RETURNS COMPARED An increase of 50.534, or 25 per cent, in the number of radio licenses in force in New Zealand is shown in the official figures as at May 31, 1937, compared . with May 31, 1936. The latest total was 251,103, as against 200,369 a year before. Practically the entire increase is due to the growth in number of receivers’ licenses, the total in this category having risen from 19 0983 to 248,353. The latest return shows that there are now 89,011 holders of receivers’ licenses in the Wellington district, 79,686 in Auckland, 45,617 in Canterbury and 34,037 in Otago.
Dominion totals for other types of licenses, with 1936 figures in parentheses, are as follows:—Dealers,' 1124 (1076); experimental, amateur, 945 (870); experimental, research, 1 (2); multiple, 6 (3); special, 4 (2); free, 652 (.407); broadcasting, 20 (21). -
