FOX STREET BLUEGUMS
REMOVAL AGAIN URGED REPORT TO BE SUBMITTED The removal of blucgum trees in Upper Fox street has been urged again, and the Gisborne Borough Council last night asked the reserves committee to visit the locality and submit a report. Messrs. Brosnahan and Chrisp writing on behalf of Mrs. Bean, Uppci Fox street, who was negotiating the purchase of a section in Fox street, risked that the trees in front of the ■section be removed. The trees were growing immediately in front of the property on the roadway itself, shading the section and casting debris on it.
The Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman M.P., said that the matter had beer before the council at different times An old council had instructed the engineer to cut down alternate trees The trees were in front of a section which was not used, but now, apparently, use was to be made of the property. . The town clerk, Mr. W. M. Jenkins, read old reports urging that the trees should be cut out. A vote taken resulted 13 in favour of the trees being cut down and 10 in favour of them remaining.
The Mayor moved that, all trees in the street should be cut down. Cr. H. E. Maude objected, saying 'hat. the trees made a very nice walk in the summer time. The Mayor: Tt is all right for the people who do not live there. Cr. H. H. Do Costa said that the trees were a nuisance, and if the people there did not want the trees tbov should be cut down. The matter was referred to the committee to visit the locality and report.
