LONGBUSH RESERVE
ACQUIRING 15 ACRES MINISTER’S APPROVAL NO BOROUGH CONTROL Approval lias been given by the Minister of Lands, the Hon. F. Langstone, for the purchase of 15 acres of Donner’s Bush, more commonly known as Longbush, as a public reserve. The Gisborne Borough Council received adVfce to this effect at its meeting last night in a letter from the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr. H. L. Primrose, who stated that the 15 acres to be acquired would be from Mr. Ancell’.s property between the road and the river. “The Crown solicitor,” the letter added, “has been authorised to proceed in the direction of taking title on behalf of the Crown. It is proposed to make this area a public domain, and I have to inquire as to whether your council would be prepared to accept control of the land and also whether it will assist in the matter of fencing.” It was decided to reply that the council was not prepared to assist in the control or in the cost of the fencing. In moving in this direction, the Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., said that he did so because it was too far from town and was not a suitable area to be administered by the council.
