COMMON POLICY AIMS DIFFIC U LTIES DEB A TED (Reed. June 1, 11.50 a.m.) LONDON', May 31. The shipping committee at the Imperial Conference met under the chairmanship of the New Zealand Finance Minister, Mr. W. Nash, and considered the policy for the maintenance of an adequate mercantile marine under the British flag as a matter of common concern to the_ Empire. The .discussions concerning the implications of such a policy revealed many difficulties and considerable divergence of opinion. To-day’s discussions did not touch ot, the Pacific as it is regarded as a separate problem.
