WIFE OF A KING
MRS. PmHERBERT’S COFFIN FOUND LONDON, April l(i. Doubts cast upon records that the body of Mrs. Maria Fit/.Herbert, morganatic. wife of King George IV. was deposited in a vault in the Roman Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist, Brighton, have been dispelled by ihe discovery of the vault, lift, deep, midway between the altar rails and the main south doors. The vault was opened and Ihe oaken coflin found to be in an excellent state of preservation. On April o—exactly 100 years from the time the body was lowered into the vault —a requiem mass was conducted in the church. A black carpet was spread over the spot beneath which the body lay and where the absolutions took place.
