END OF MONTH RUSH
LEVIES AND LICENSES
STILL MANY OUTSTANDING
The staffs of the Gisborne Post Office and • Gisborne Borough Council were busily engaged to-day, the final day, lor the payment of the unemployment levy, declaration of income, motor re-registra-tion, and renewal of drivers’ licenses. As ia usual with the payment of the. levies and licenses there was a lastminute rush and queues of people were lined up at the various counters throughout the day.
Many complimentary remarks have been heard by officials in connection with the extension of the office hours for motor registrations into the evening. This year tho head office gave the registration offices scope to arrange their own hours and the innovation in Gisborne has proved popular with business people who are unable to make their calls during the day. After this evening the office will resume the ordinary hours. The total number of ears 're-registered when the office opened this morning was 22/0 and though the number for to-day will increase that total it can be seen that there are still many more applications to he dealt with.
It is probable that many of the cars not re-registered are those not used every d;iy or those that will remain in the garages until later in the season. Since the office was opened at the beginning of the month tho day with the largest number of applications handled was last Friday, when 292 were issued. the total of 177 for Saturday makes it appear as though there was a considerable dropping off, but it must be realised that most of those re-registerations were handled in three hours in the morning. There were few people in the office m the afternoon and evening. It is understood that that are still a nurnblr of motor licenses outstanding.
