(Reed. Mav 31, noon.) SYDNEY, May 31. A radio message from the solar exped lion at Canton Island says:—
••(.'anion Island is a paradise i'or the student of natural history. We have already obtained many specimens for the Auckland and Wellington museums. The Americans are adjusting their instruments, wl icli are pointing to the sky like howitzers.
"On Saturday night wo made observii lions, photographing the moon and star? On Sunday the concrete bases of th coclostat 78in. camera were commence* alongside the American instruments The temperature was 84 degrees in th shade.
•'The army tents used by both parties are pitched in lines, the Americans having 20 and New Zealand four. The Americans have become acclimatised, and the only clothing of a majority is loin cloths and tinted glasses, which are essential in view of the glare of the sun. "The land is infested with crabs, which enter tile tents and beds when the men are asleep. Sharks are abundant, ami there have been frequent hauls ol fish. Both parties are settling down and preparing for eclipse day."
