NEW MEAT BARGE
USE AT WANGANUI LONG TOW BEGUN (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, tins day. A barge built by the Auckland firm of Messrs. Lowe and Son to the order of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company, left Auckland to-day in tow ol the'motor ship Port Waikato for Wanganiii. to be used to convey meat from the company's works at today to liners in the Wanganui roadstead. Built of three skins of, kauri, the vessel is 70ft. long, with a beam of 18ft. The one hold runs thejull length of the vessel, which has been insulated for the carriage of frozen produce. The barge is double ended, and is specially constructed for crossing the Wanganui River bar and lightering work. It has a steering wheel and rudder, but will be towed when in use. The firm will commence immediately the construction of a sister vessel.
