FIRST ANNUAL MEETING CLUB NIGHT ARRANGED The annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Boxing and Gymnasium Club was held on Tuesday evening, Mr. (!. 11. Sccats presiding over a fair attendance of members. In the annual report appreciation was expressed of the services of Messrs. .1. lleeney and F. liickard as honorary instructors. As a result of the canvass for members, the year ended in the club having i'i financial members, Mr. fcj. MeKenzie easily obtaining tlii! greatest number of nominations. The report also stated: —

"Rooms. —A tenancy was obtained of the old unemployment bureau rooms in Materoa street, and the club commenced activities in August, 193 f somewhat late in the season —consequently the attendance -was rather disappointing. We have our own ring, gloves, punching ball and bag. and a shower bath has been installed. "Finance.—The credit balance on March 31, 1937, was £1 3s -Id.

"Attention is drawn to the provision that payment of the 5s subscription by a father also entitles any sons under the age of 18 to the full privilege of membership, and other members may nominate tiny boy under the age of IS years lo have all privileges in their stead. Competition Suggested "Club night.—A very successful club night was held during the visit of the H.M.A.S. Swan, and we recommend that an endeavour be made to hold such evenings at least once a month. With the Waikohn association, the Defence club, and Johnny Summers' school in operation, some form of competitions is desirable. "Obituary.—lt is with regret that we have to record the death during the year of our president, Mr. R. Bruce. Mr. Bruce was one of the enthusiastic, founders of the club, and to his bereaved relations our deepest. sympathy is extended."

The thanks of the club were extended lo all donors of trophies and supporters of the sport of boxing throughout the district." The report was adopted on the motion of Mr. G. 11. Ellis; secretary, Mr. W. P. Kennedy; honorary instructors, Messrs. ,1. Heoney and P. Rickard.
