TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT END IN NINTH ROUND SOUTH AFRICAN RFXISHED (Klee. Tel. Copyright-—United Press Assn.) (Reed. May 28, 2 p.m.) LONDON, May 27. Tn a boxing bout- of .12 rounds at llarringii.v, Max Baer defeated Ben Poord in the ninth round, .scoring a smashing victory in which the South African’s rushing tactics led to bis downfall against, the American's ringcraft and vigour. Foord attacked furiously from the start. Baer, smilingly side-stepping, had the .South African groggy in the second round as the result of terrific lights to the Jgw. Thereafter Baer piled on the points. Eoord, from the fifth round, stood an amazing amount of punishment unflinchingly. lie was down For the count, of eight twice in the ninth round, and as lie rose the second time Baer drove in Iwo ferocious punches and sent Pool'd hurtling against- the ropes, off which he rebounded and collapsed. A second attempted to throw in the towei, which caught- the ropes. Foord was making an effort to rise when the referee accepted the retirement. The timekeeper announced that he had counted out Foord, who thus was beaten on a technical knockout.
