Five Ministers of the French Cabinet listened to a speech by Dr. H. Schacht, German Minister of Economy, at the opening of the German pavilion at the Paris Exhibition.
After promising to support improved relations between France and Germany, he again voiced Germany’s demand for the return of her former colonies, saying -that Germany’s aims had often been misunderstood, because the fundamental element of German life was not sufficiently appreciated.
“With the exception of Switzerland, which enjoys an international guarantee, Germany is the only nation in the world which does not possess a source of foodstuffs, either at home or abroad, sufficient to feed her population,” he said. "This is a grotesque situation. Those seeking to keep up this state of things will never be able to eliminate the risks it has caused. Those who contribute to its removal would guarantee peace . in Europe and the world for generations,” he added.. • r
