COMMITTEES FOR YEAR
The monthly meeting of the Cook Cpiinty Council was continued yesterday afternoon with the appointment of the following committees : Finance.— The chairman, Cr. Charles Matthews, and Crs. Benson, Hall, Shanks, Sherratt; Tomblcson and 'Thomas. •R-ee-planting.—The chairman and Crg] Baker, Benson, Bowen, Hall and Tfeijen. ■ '• ' ' Cemetery.—The chairman and Crs. Ho%n, Thomas, TomMesou, Tietjen and Gray.;' Accounts.—The whole council. Drainage.—The chairman, and members' for the Gisborne, Muriwai, Tartiheru and Whataupoko ridings. Housing.—The chairman and Crs. Baker, Benson and Sherratt. : Works.—The chairman and Crs. Baker, Benson,-Sherratt and Thomas. A- joint committee was appointed, including the chairman and Crs. E. 11. Baker,' J. JS. Benson, J. C. N! Thomas and S. T. Gray,' and on the motion of Cr." Tomblcson, seconded vby Cr. Sherratt, it was authorised to meet a deputation from the ratepayers at 2 p.m. on Saturday to bring before the Minister of Public Works', the Hon. R. Semple. the matter of increased rates in the county. " "" :."'■" - ' ';■ " The resolution of the Makara County Council; •Wellington,* seeking provision for an amendment of the proposed legislation regarding the amalgamation oj local bodies, so as to provide for a poll of ttel ratepayers, was received. The Cook Hospital Board outlined its buildinß » ncl loan proposals, stating that it was its intention to consider a motion to'apply to the Local Government Loans Board for its sanction to the borrowing of £35,500. An invitation to members of the council to inspect the hospital and nurses' home buildings was extended bv the chairman of the board, Air. M. T. Traiford. Cr. W. G. Sherratt: When do they propose' to start the building? , Or. 8. T. Gray: As soon as they get the money. t- , ~ -. Cr J.
