COOK COUNCIL CI?. MATTHEWS REELECTED At, noon to-day Cr. Charles Matthews was re-elected chairman of the Cool; County Council on the motion of Cr. .1. Tombleson. seconded by Cr. .1". K. Benson. In calling for nominations for the position of chairman at to-day's meeting of the Cook Countv Council, the countv clerk, Mr. P. T. Bobinson, said that the year just past had been a successful one, and the vear ahead promised to be difficult. Complimentary remarks as to the work of the retiring chairman, Cr. Charles Matthews, whose re-election was moved by Cr. J. Tombleson and seconded by Cr. .1. lv. Benson, were made by the proposers, and Cr. Benson added that it was only recently that he and the chairman had differed on any point. The chairman thanked the council for its continued confidence in re-electing him for the sixteenth year to the post. The coming year would lie a trying one, although the produce prices were good, on account of the rapidly increasing costs, lie was gratified that although there were differences of opinion at meetings, no feeling was carried away by councillors afterwards. He thought it only right that then? should he differences of opinion for the more efficient working of the council.
