CATTLE PAIR VALUES

LAST SALE COMPARED

With the exception of wean or calves, which in some cases appreciated in value, the market for store cattle at the. Matawhero Cattle Fair yesterday was generally down on the prices realised at the" previous fair. The total yarding was 41 ">o and owing to the many pens containing small lots the sale was rather prolonged.

Outside buyers were not as active, as at some of the fairs this season, but considerable business was done. on behalf of SVairoa, Ray of Plenty and Waikato districts. Good station lines were not much in evidence, apparently having been disposed of at the last fair.

The following is the range of values at the sale, prices for the last fair on May 4 and '> being mentioned ill parentheses for comparison:— Breeding cows.-—A pen of good framed P.A. in good store condition brought ff! 4s. The next highest price was £5 12s. with other top lines making i*"> to £5 10s, fairly good to good £4 to £4 15s, and poor condition £1 lfis to £2 12s Gd. (Last fair; Outstanding lines, £C to £0 12s fid; good lines, £5 to £6; light conditioned cows of a good stamp, up to £4 lis. but generally £3 2s to £3 165.)

Empty cows. —To £3 li's for spcyed prime Horefords, with fairly good round about £'.'> 10s. (Last fair: Fat and forward, to £5; store condition, £3 to £3 14s; and down to £3 16s for light.) Steers. —Some good pens of from 2|-year upwards were offered and brought £0 13s to £7 14s; 20-month, £5 lis to £6 .17s, with ifnly an odd lot above .£(> 0s; woaners to £4 HJs for one pen, otherwise to £1 4s. Grown Jersey steers in good order made £4, while one pen with good frame and fresh condition reached £o i's.

Heifers.— Up to £fi for 20-month, with some fairly good linos, £.l 18s to ft! 17s Oil; gookl wearier heifers, £3 Is to £3 9s. (Last fair: Good pens of 18-raotith made £4 lis, £4 Lis and £•! 165.) The National Mortgage and ..Agency Company of .New Zealand. Limited, has advised the Stock Rxchange Association that an interim 1 dividend at the rate of 5 per rt'nl per annum has been declared for the half-year ended March 31, payable on duly 1. at the National Bank of New Zealand. .London.
