THE WEATHER To-day's North Island Report Calm or smooth seas prevailed a 1 most North Island weather stations to-dav, with a slight swell at Wellington and CastlepohU, and moderate sea at Cape Palliser. The weather was chiefly calm, with an easterly wind at Wellington, and westerly at Cape Campbell and Casllepoint. Blue skies prevailed nearly everywhere. Temperatures at n a.m. were:—Cape Palliser, GO; Cape .Maria Van Pieman, 57; Auckland and Tiritiri, 55; Castlepoint. 54; Tauranga, til; Napier, 40; Wellington, -IS; Last Cape, 47; Opotiki, 4o; and Cape Campbell, 44. An anticyclone is passing the Dominion, with its centre to the north. Pressure is still low to the east of the South Island, anil a rather deep depression is located over the south-west Tasman Sea. and moving slowly eastwards. The forecast is for winds, light to moderate south-westerly to westerly, veering to north-westerlies and (freshening about and south of Cook Strait, later changing again to southerly in the southern portion of the South' Island. Sear, in New Zealand waters will he slight to moderate, but rising somewhat south of Cape Bgmonl and about Cook and l'oveuux Straits. In Iho eastern Tasman Sea there will he north-westerly winds, moderate- iu the northern portion with moderate seas, and fresh to strong in the southern portion and backing later to southerlies in lh ( > far south, with rather rough seas. The weather will he mainly fair to fine at first. Some scattered showers are probable, however, in the western coastal areas, and later, unsettled conditions and rain developing from Taranaki southwards. Temperatures will be rather mild.
