SPECIAL DEFENCE TAX
AMENDMENT DESIRED
PLEA FOR CONCESSIONS
(Eloc. Tel. Copyright—United Tress Assn.) (Reed. April 29, noon) . LONDON, April 28.
The London Stock Exchange was evidently heartened by the statement, made by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, to the House of Commons yesterday when speaking on the Budget resolution concerning the special tax on profits as a contribution to the costs of defence.
Industrials particularly were more cheerful.
The Australian Associated Tress City editor understands. however, that neither the City nor many Conservative members ot the House of Commons are completely satisfied, and will press for important amendments and couceslons.
