SEASON'S WOOL CHEQUE NAPIER TOTAL: £2,448,449 BEST PRICES SINCR 1928 Bealisations at the Napier wool sales during the Jf1.16-.17 season totalled £2,448,449, the largest turnover for 12 years, while the prices at the last sale on. April 8 were the best since February, 1928. In the 1024-25 season ,88,695 bales were sold, the total payments being £2,790,577. The best sale in that season was in November, when 11,787 bales averaged £36 2s Sd per bale, while 10,299 bales in March averaged (£23 13s 33d. The price at the April sale this year averaged £34 12s B.lßd per bale over 29,956 bales, and only twice since 1924-25 has that figure been exceeded, these occasions being February and March, 1928. In February of that year 22,610 bales averaged £2.1 10s 10.]d, and in March 4037 bales averaged £25 Ss 2Jd. Realisations and total weights of wool at this season's Napier sales are shown as under:—
Offerings during the season just closed were not up to those of the previous season, and totalled 109,297 bales, compared with 128,800 bales in 1935-36. Last season's clearance, however, was almost a total one, and only 319 bales failed to find buyers. There was a total clearance at the final sale. The bales offered, sold and unsold at the four sales during the past season are shown in the following table:—
The average price this month was 16.93 d per lb., this being about 2fd better than in February, Id better than in January, and 2}d higher than in December. The average prices per lb. and per bale during the season are shown be-
