A genuine surprise party visited Mr. and .Mrs. W, J. Reid, Fraser road, on Saturday night, the occasion being Mr. Reid’s birthday. Some members of the party arrived in fancy dress and added greatly to the fun of the evening. A very jolly time was spent in dancing and several enjoyable musical items were rendered. The guest of honour was toasted and wished long life and happiness. A delicious, savoury supper was served, and a large birthday cake, decorated with the requisite number of candles, had pride of place on the well-laden table. Those present .included Mr. and Mrs. 'f. Jli. Tyerman, Ah’, and -Mrs. N. G. Nisbelt, Mr. and Airs. A. Ncilson (Gisborne), Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Donaldson, Miss Una Reid, Miss Al. Fisher, Messrs. C. Pert, G. Montgomery, .1. Begg, Shields (2), and Jl. Slade (Gisborne). Final arrangements for the annual autumn flower show were made by the members of St. Paul’s Ladies’ Guild at the monthly meeting on Thursday. Mrs. \Y. .!. Reid was hostess and Mrs. A. IL Pierce took the chair .in the absence oi the president, Airs. R. S. Fisher. The show was. to have been held on February 6, but on the advice of the health department was postponed to February 20. The (fit-room will again he under the capable management of Mrs. 11. L. Twislcton and helpers. Stewards and judges were appointed and all necessary details arranged.. The Rev. Mr. Hodgson, accompanied by Mr. Gardner, Hawke’s Bay, attended the meeting. Mr. Gardner gave a very interesting and instructive address on (lie social weltarc of the church, and lie made an appeal for further financial assistance for the many homes which are an important part of the churches’ activities. Those, present were:—Mesdames A. I!. Pierce, 11. Boys, G. S. Bridge, \V. Carron, A. E. Lcgge, G. Hutchins, T. 11. Tyerman, .). R. Donaldson, 11. L. Twislcton, G. AlacIntyre (Gisborne), and Miss S. Twisleton (secretary). Mr. and Mrs. A. Nielson and Messrs. Shields (2.) and Slade. Gisborne, were week-end visitors of Mr. and Mrs. \V. .), Reid. Moiu.—Miss M. Dereeoiirt has returned to Mntuhnrn alter spending a holiday at Whakatane.—Miss Zelda Dereeoiirt is a visitor to Auckland.— Mrs. T. McC’reedy, Tolaga Bay, is the guest of her cousin Mrs. J. McGuiimoss. Motuhora.—Mr. L. Renner, Gisborne, visited Mr. and Mrs. A. IL Pier<_c for the week-end, —Miss Reg Twislcton lias returned to her home at Marumoko and is much improved in health.—Mrs. L. Al. Davis and Miss Yates have returned to Whakerau after visiting Waikaroiiioana and Ruakitnri.—Mr. and Airs. F. P. Fisher and Mr. and Mrs. F. Read were visitors to Gisborne for the races.
