THEATRE MANAGERS

GISBORNE CONVENTION REGENT CTRCUTT PROJECT A project of considerable interest to theatre-goers will be launched on Monday by Gisborne Theatres, Limited, when a convention of managers of the Kerridge circuit, comprising 11 entertainment houses, will be held at the Regent Theatre buildings in Gisborne. It is anticipated that 14 managers from outside Gisborne will be present at the •convention, for which a lengthy and impressive programme has been prepared. This will be the first convention of the kind to be hob in either Australia or New Zealand.

Monday's programme will include addresses on theatre accounting, by Mr. J. Haisman; the distribution side of the industry, by Mr. -Mark Toomey, Wellington manager for Fox Films, Limited; the treatment of deafened patrons, by Mr. V. Clouston; newspaper advertising, by Mr. R, .1. Eastwood; commercial art, by Mr. T. G. Johns; trials of a booker, by Mr. Colin Smith; the training of theatre staffs, by Mr. F. T. Kerridge; projection from a manager's standpoint, by Mr. .1. Tennant; the. legitimate stage, by Mr. Will B. Kenny; and interviews with interesting cinema folk, by Mr. 11. Darby. Trade screenings of two o: the most interesting and important films of the current year will be made in the course of the day, and in the evening the assembled managers will discuss" a number of remits.

On Tuesday, the closing day of th conference, papers will be read on engineering in theatre management, by Mr. If. Pearson; sound developments, by Mr.' Mead Walworth, New Zealand general manager for the Western Electric Company, Limited, and Mr. D. G. Lcafham, technical manager of the Western Electric Company; excellence in projection, by Mr. \V. R. Chrisp; personal stall' training, by Mr. B. D. Chapman; and a closing address by Mr. R. J.'Kerridgc, managing diretor of Gisborne Theatres, Limited, who will preside at the convention. The members of the convention will be entertained informally during the intervals between and after business sessions.
