UAWA COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING A SHORT AGENDA (Herald Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Uawn County Council was held in Tolaga Bay yesterday, those present being Crs. .1. McNeil, chairman, J). 11. Hawkins. K. C. Loisel. 11. B. Littleworth, P. W. Shelton and P. T. Weeks. Leave of absence was granted to Cr. J. L. Beeves. The Public Works Department, Uisborne, wrote asking that an endeavour should iie made to operate fully oil all authorities for road works. —The letter was received.

The Department, of Health wrote enclosing a copy of the camping ground regulations and inquiring whether the council desired these regulations to be applied to the county.— It was decided that, the regulations should not he applied to the fawa County. The Department of Agriculture, Gisborne. advised that the ragwort reported to the council had been cleared. —The letter was received,

The Cook Hospital Board forwarded a statement amounting to £435 5s 3d. being tho fourth instalment of the levy. —This was received.

The Waiapn County Council invited the chairman and clerk to attend a meeting at Te Puia Springs on Tuesday, February 16. to discuss with the Poverty Bay Electric Power Board"s representatives the electrical costs and services to reticulate the East Coast district.—lt was decided that the invitation should be accepted.

The clerk was instructed to write to the district engineer for extra authority to cover formation work on the Tauwhareparae road. The clerk was asked to find out the position regarding the clearing of drains on the wharekaka, settlement, it was decided that some improvements should be made to the bridge on Kaiaua road. Accounts amounting to £4115 4s lid were passed for payment.

FiNGINEER'S REPORT The following report was submitted by the engineer: "Secondary Highways.—Further workcutting back points at the 2 mile and 4 mile has .been carried out. The live suspension bridges at Mangatoetoe have been painted. A long culvert has been put in on Caldwell's Hill. A new cuJ vert also has been put in near McNab's, on the Arakihi highway. "Ridings.—Arakihi: On the Kiors rua'l the Public. Works Department has completed carting the spawls, and breaking down on the road is now being proceeded with. The first length has been rolled. A commencement has "been made metalling on the Arakihi road by the department. Hauiti, Mangaheia, and Mangatuna : There are no special works to report. Tauwhareparae: The grader has been proceeding as far as weather conditions have allowed. The grader has now moved down to the Huanui road in connection with the metalling works. The tender of Mr. A. W. Dever has been accepted for metalling 80 chains on the Huanui road. The tender of Mr. Ropehana Hantapu has been accepted for the reformation of the first 30 chains of the Tauwhareparae road beyond the Huanui turn-off.
