At the Wairoa County Council meeting this week Or. W. 'fait mentioned certain alleged road reserves not shown in the. balance sheet- us county assets. These, lie said, were shown on the old maps as "reserves" and not as road reserves, and so should he county assets. The Treasury has advised the Wairoa County Council of the payment of subsidies on maintenance of main highways for the quarter ended September 3d, 1956, as niain highways for the quarter 1926, as follows :---Napier-Gisborne, via Mqrcre, £1198; Wnikaremoana road highway, £519; Ruakituri Valley high.vav. £lßl ; and Nuhaka-Waikokopu highway,, £126. The imports at Waikokopu for the past two months were: Timber, 90,108 ft. ; general goods, 63£ tons; southern produce, 18H tons; cement, 122 tons; manure, 14 tons, tip trucks, 18. The exports during the same period were :—341 bales of wool; 796 packages of pork, 24 quarters of beef 1578 carcases of mutton, 14,391 carcases of lamb; 277 bags, 24 quarters and 82 sides of boneless veal.,. Mrs. .lane White, widow of the late Mr. Robert White, Wairoa's first post and telegraph officer, is slaying with Mr. nnd Mrs. A. T. Carroll at Huramua. Mrs. White, who is hale and hearty despite her great age, is a sister of the fate Sir James Carroll, Wairoa's distinguished ariki.
