WAIROA ROADS
ENGINEER'S REPORT

At the Wairoa County Council meeting this week the acting engineer. Mr. R. W. Hawthorne, in addition to reporting on the main highways, dealt generally with county matters as follows : "Rosy Bay Cottage, YYaikaremoana.— As instructed, I made an inspection of the Rosy [Bay cottage and obtained a price for* its reconditioning from Messrs. George Simpson and Sons. The repairs were put in hand, including the painting of the cottage, and are now completed. I have not yet obtained a suit- •• lilo tenant:. In the meantime the col tage will be left open. "Metal Pit. Mahia township.—This pit is located on the beach at Mahia township and it is from here that the Mahia peninsula draws its supplies of maintenance metal. The pit has a definite life and the indications are that when the present contract for 1000 cub. yds. of metal is completed the pit will be practically worked out. 1 would point, out, however, that the metalling work being carried out this year is also improving access to the Mahia peninsula. "Nuliaka River Road.--The gangs employed under the overseer, Mr. A. Harvey, and Mr. D. Nepia, have completed, the work of opening up this road and most of the wool has been transported, from Mr. IT. Symes' woolshed at the top end. "Metal Contracts.—An endeavour is being made to have all the metalline contracts carried out before March 31. The contractor for Willow .. lat road has made a start and several others are • early to start within a dav or two."
