New Zealand Linen?
WITH a possibility of the ostnblishW meat: of the linen industry in the Dominion, experimental plots of Liral Crown linseed are being grown in South Canterbury, Lincoln, Leeston and I'alniersvou North. Harvesting of some of the plots is now in progress, but it is too early get to give an idea of the yield of straw and seed. Mr. S. W. * Hadflcld, chief Government agronomist, is in charge of the trials. Samples of the straw will be sent to the Linen Industry Research Association laboratory in Norfolk, Kngland, where tests Will be carried out by the director. Mr. G. O. Senile.
1 In past years fibre varieties have been grown in New Zealand for the export of seed to Ireland, but the present trials wero being made with the object of seeing if the fibre could be manufactured in New Zealand and the production of coarser linens undertaken.
