P.B. CLUB MEETING GRASSLAND CONTESTS SI TOW STEWARDSHIPS Members of the Poverty Bay Young Fanners' Club gathered" Hi fair numbers last evening at Mr. W. E. Chamberlain'a office for their monthly meeting, Mr. G. II- Cooper presiding. Among those whose presence was noted with interest was Mr. Thorpe, instructor in agriculture at the Gisborne High .School.
Three new mem hers were elected lo the active list, and .several honorary members were nominated for enrolment. Mr. E. M. Bates, of the Department of Agriculture, intimated that he found it necessary to resign from the office ot vice-president of the chib, owing to bis duties as district, organiser of young farmer.".' clubs for the whole East Const and Poverty Bay district, lie considered that iu the circumstances it would be. preferable if lie did not take office in any individual club. He proposed Mr. G. V. Smith as vice-president, to fdl the vacancy caused by his withdrawal, the nomination being accepted by unanimous vote.
An explanation of the grasslands competition which is being launched among the East Coast and Poverty Bay clubs was given by Mr. Bates, the conditions of the competition being warmly approved. An animated discussion on grasslands management was participated in by many of those present, and a considerable amount of interest was evinced in the mangold competition which is to be organised by Messrs. Common. Shcllon and Company, Limited. A number of members accepted an invitation to undertake stewards' duties at the forthcoming A. and P. Show. The meeting closed with votes of thanks to Mr. Bates for his outline of the respective competitions, and to Mr. Chamberlain, for the use of his room.
