CURRENCY OF AMERICA
DEVALUATION POWERS POSSIBLE EXTENSION WASHINGTON, Oct. 7. Mr. Roosevelt indicated in a press interview to-day that if lie is reelected to the Presidency he will ask Congress to extend his legal powers to devaluate currency, which normally expires on January 1, 1W.7.
He said that the primary purpose of the American currency policy was to protect, domestic values, for which reason emergency powers should bo vested in the Government to prevent the destruction of domestic values through the unexpected action of other nations.
The inference is drawn from the reference to the emergency powers is that he is not contemplating further devaluation under the existing conditions.
