OVERWORKED HYMNS
BISHOP SUGGESTS BAN
LONDON, Aug. 22. The Bishop of Chelmsford, Dr. Henry Wilson, suggests, in his .September letter to his dio6e.se, that nine famous hymns .should be "eliminated from our repertoire for tho next 12 months."
Dr. Wilsoii .says that he finds that tho number of hymns .sung on occasions when ho visits churches is limited to about a dozen.' The hymns which, he suggests, it "might bo a very good tiling" to ban for a year are:— . ,
"All people ..that..:,. on earth do dwell."
"Wo love the place O God." "City of God."' ''Ye watchers and yc Holy ones." "Now thank we all Our God." "Praise, my soul, the King of Heaven."
"O God, our help in ages past." "Tho Church's one foundation."
"Lead us, Heavenly Father." "I am astonished," the Bishop writes, "at the very narrow choice of hymns to which we now seem to have restricted ourselves. Why, for instance, should such a hymn as 'O God, our help in ages past' be worked to death, as is the caso to-day]"
