Fifteen Years Ago
CRNST Lubitsch, now a producer of
pictures, recently found in an ,odd corner of his offiee a Los Angeles newspaper of 15 years ago. In looking through it he came across a paragraph which called the attention of Hollywood's highly-paid artists to
"the amazingly low salaries paid in Germany to-day, where Pola Negri is getting 4;3 dollars (about £9) a week; Ernst Lubitsch, the director, 65 dollars a week; technicians, five dollars a week; and ''extras" 25 cents (about one shilling) per day."
Lubitsch was so amused by the mention of himself that he showed the old newspaper to all his friends.
