Light to moderate southerly breezes were general. The barometer had continued to fall slowly. Temperature?; at 0 o’clock were: Auckland (11 degrees, Tauranga, Opotiki, and Napier 58, East Cape 50, Gisborne 60 and Wellington 56. Moderate or smooth seas were reported everywhere. Last Night’s Forecast A depression is crossing the Dominion to-day and it. is being by a secondary depression across the Jasmnn Sea. Ail anticyclone is still centred north of New Zealand and another one is now located over Eastern Australia. Winds : Northerly to westerly predominating, strong and squally in parts ol the Cook and Fovea ux Straits areas, but, otherwise, mainly moderate, backing at times to south-westerly in many places. Seas (Now Zealand waters): Rather rough If* rough about Cook and Eoveaux Straits and on parts ol the West Coast soul 1 1 of Cape Eg mo nl; elsewhere, slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Winds' between west and south-west, prevailing, but. later, backing again lo north-west, strong at times with rather rough seas in the northern portion, but otherwise moderate with slight to moderate seas. Weather: Mainly fair in eastern coastal areas; otherwise cloudy to overcast and with rain at times, Imt more especially in districts with a westerly aspect ; improving during to-morrow in'most parts; temperatures cool to moderate. . . General inference.—An anticyclone is now centred over the northern portion of the Dominion, while a fresh depression is located over the south-west Tasman Sea and advancing eastwards.
