The new season’s policy was agreed lo by the council al last night’s meeting, after receiving a report, from the bath committee, which discussed the matter recently with representatives of the swimming club. The committee’s report stated: “It was pointed out to the Gisborne Swimming Club representatives that the accumulated loss on the bath over a period of five years amounted to .£426, and the council was anxious to devise ways and means of popularising the bath and thus increase the revenue. “Swimmers expressed the opinion that the colour of the water was the principal objection to the use of the bath, and considered that if (lie water was filtered the bath would become more popular. “The engineer reported that, a suitable filtration plant would cost £I3OO, plus running costs estimated at £2 15s per week. This additional expenditure the committee- is unable to recommend. “The swimming club suggested that, a member of its executive should be appointed a member of the council's ball) committee to act in an advisory capacity. The .committee recommends that this suggestion he given effect to. ’1 lie club executive promised the council its wholehearted support in its aborts to increase the bath revenue. “It, appears to the committee that there is no alternative but to open the bath for the ensuing season on the same conditions as previous years, and to review the position again at the end of the year.” The report was adopted.
