P.B. ASSOCIATION M ANAGEMENT MEETS NEW MEMBERS WELCOMED A meeting of the newly-elected committee of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association was held at the office of Air. j, M. Kay last- night, when there were present Alessrs. 11. E. Maude, chairman, V. Caul ton, D. A. Wells, E. Bilham, -G. N. Lockett, A. Bignnll, .1. .1. Macdonald, ,T. Gmwford-Smith, F. 0. Bennett, W. Stewart.-, and J. M. Kay, lion, secretary.

A welcome to the new members to I lie management, committee, .Messrs. K. C. Bennett, E. Bilham, V. Cault.on, and G. X, Lockett, was extended by the chairman.

The Poverty Bay Ladies’ Cricket Club wrote asking for t‘he use of a wicket on ■Saturdays this season. Application was received from the Rugby Old Boys Cricket Club, who wished to enter a senior B and a junior team in the association's competitions. It was resolved that both letters should be hold over until next meeting, when all entries for the various club competitions would be to hand.

The Now Zealand Cricket Council advised that Wendel Bill, the well-known Australian cricketer, was to visit New Zealand lo give cricket, lectures and broadcasts.

Notification was received from ihe Auckland Cricket Association that a conference of delegates of the minor associations in the Auckland district would he held in Auckland on October 24 and the local association was asked to be represented. No action was taken in the meantime.

Mr. P. C. Dwyer wrote stating that Mr. M. Iv. Boon and himself were prepared to coach schoolboys in an endeavour to improve the standard of play in the primary schools. The chairman mentioned that Air. G. N. Lockett also had offered his services in a similar capacity. Jt was- decided to write to- Urn Primary Schools Sports Association informing it of the offer and asking for its co-operation.. A report was given by Air. F. C. Bennett- on the progress oi the preparation of the wickets at the Oval. He stated that practice wickets would be available next week.

Alessrs. G. N. Lockett- and .T. M. Kay were appointed the postponement- committee, and Air. I). A. Wells the registrar and record keeper. It was decided to fix the date of the opening of the season at the next meeting of the management committee, on October 12. FRIENDLY GAME PLAY IN TOKOMARU PAY (Herald Correspondent.) Tlie cricket, season commenced in Tokomnru Bay last- week-end. o'iving to the inability ot' arranging a- match against lluatoria, which is now expected to take place next- week-end. tho local club formed two teams and played a friendly game. The teams were the captain’s team and the vice-captain’s team, and the match ended in a win. for the latter -by only seven runs. Each team played one man short and as the gome, started in the afternoon only one innings- each was completed. A newcomer to the Bay, Father Sheeley, appears to be an asset, being, a very keen all-round player. Showing his ability with the hat, this member compiled 31 before he retired of his own accord, and took two wickets of the captain’s team for four runs. Another newcomer to local cricket is L-. Seymour, who is also looked upon, judging by his play during the day, to give a good account for himself. The players all round have improved- their game, and the expectations are for a good season.
