THE LATEST ADDITION LAUNCH FROM NAPIER

A .good! passage was made by the fishing launch Taupo, which arrived at Gisborne at 8.5 p.m. on Sun cl ay Irom Napier. The craft, which left the Hawke’s Bay port at 11 p.m. on Saturday, had an uneventful trip, with the exception that a sail blew out when the boat was off Mohaka in the early hours of Sunday morning. A strong nor’-westerly was blowing at the time, but this damage was repaired on the way. Mr. S'. Zam© was. in charge of the launch and he had. with him a. crew of three. The Taupo is to enter the local .fishing trade immediately and left Mas morning on her first run' out of Gisborne. This addition, to Gisborne's fleet of fishing vessels is sturdily built, of kauri and h.is proved io he an excellent, seaboat. She is of the mullet-boat, type- and her dimensions are 33ft. in length overall, lift, beam, and 4fl. 6in>. draught. For’ard she is fitted with a winch, which is driven by the main engine, a 16 h.p. benzine marine motor. It is proposed later to fit the launch with a- Diesel engine. The craft has space for tho carriage of a large quantity of fish on ice.

Gisborne Fisheries, Limited, is negotiating for the purchase, of another Napier fishing boat, the Tempest, a 40l*t. launch of the full-fleck type. If the company purchases her she will arrive here in about, two weeks.
