WAIROA CLUB GISBORNE PLAYERS’ VISIT (Herald Correspondent.) Last week-end a strong team of Gisborne golfers paid their return visit to the Wairna links, 23 players from Gisibornc- taking part. The games tlirougbout were very evenly contested and in the Ryder Clip competition, 12 in a team, the trophy was retained l/y Poverty Bay by nine games to eight, bill in the inter-club competition Wairoa won with a fair margin of games in hand. Mr. N. 11. Bull, speaking on hehalt of the Poverty Bay club, thanked the Wairoa members for entertaining them so well. The. speaker was very complimentary about tlie sporting nature of the links and also the wonderful improvement since his visit last year. lie thought, the Wairoa links could compare with any short course in the conntry. Mr. R. M. Mowat, the club captain, speaking on behalf of the Wairoa members, thanked Poverty Bay for giving them such a pleasant day’s outing. ]l was the day they all looked forward to. and this return match they had been hoping to regain the Ryder Cup, and, although not successful, they wepveiy pleased at Wairoa,'s showing.
