ORDEAL IN BUSH
MAN INJURES FOOT While chopping titree ;d McLeod’s Bay, Waihekr, .Mr. 11. Smith, aged 22. inflicted a deep gasli in bis foot. He was working in thick bush at the time, and had to crawl nearly 100yds. on his hands and knees to where his. companion, .Mr. L. Arnold, was working. After .Mr. Arnold had attended to'him, Mr. Smith was taken on horseback lor eight miles—part of tile journey being over rough tracks—to Palm Beach, which was reached after four hours. Mr. Smith was then transferred to a motor truck and driven a further three miles to Oncroa, where the Waihrke district nurse inserted three stitches'in the wound. He was taken to Auckland by the steamer Uncwa, and sent to hospital.
