TOKOMARU BAY TENNIS
CLUB’S SEASON OPENED YANKEE TOURNEY PLAYED (Herald Correspondent.) The Tokoniaru Hay bowling green and tennis courts wore crowded with players for the ollieial opening of both clubs at the week-end, in perfect weather. Eighty tennis players look part in the Yankee tournament, and on the bowling green every link was occupied. There w.as a large crowd of .spectators, and all spent, a pleasant day. Visitors were present from Gisborne, Tolaga. I lay, Te I’uia and W’ai pirn Hay. After the bowling season had been declared open, Mr. I’. T. .Telferd, a vice-presidenl of the tennis club, wished the players a verv successful season, whieh he deelared open. A sumptuous afternoon tea was (lispensed by the ladies’ commillee, and there was no dilliculty in catering for the entire crowd.
Those who won most games in the Yankee tennis tournament wore Miss M. (Tidwell and Miss D. Oonole (nine games each), and 1.. Hurdolt (11 giinies). The Indy winners tossed for the prize and Miss Oonole emerged the winner. Thanks for the organisation of this tournament were extended to Messrs. F. Knox and S. 0. Lvle-Smvlhe.
