NEW JULIUS “TOTE.’

MACHINE TESTED A SATISFACTORY TRTAT. With the work of installation now eoniplelcd. the new Julius totalisator at Trent ham was tested last, week and I lie result- was wholly sat isfactory to Hie i lull'd electrical engineer, Mr. L. L. Saggers. During the past fortnight the necessary adjustments io the issuers and tho adding and calculating machinery have been made, and the .totalisator tested under race conditions. The only work that remained to he done in the installation of the plant was idle erection of Hie calibrated indicator scales alongside the dividend channels on the barometers, inside and outside, and the synchronisation of the inside and outside barometers by moans of •Selsvii transmitters and receivers, apparatus identical to that used in determining the- relative levels of (he water inside and outside the locks of the Panama Canal.

The. number of issuers installed on the course is fifty (two JOS, fourteen £L and thirty-four 10s), but provision is made for additions up to half as many again if the occasion arises in the future. In the main house there are 'eight £t’ and fifteen 10s issuers; in the outside house there are ten 10s issuers, two to tho inside and eight- to the outside ; in the tea, kiosk are seven IDs issuers; in the members' stand arc two .CL issuers; in the main grandstand are two .1 Os issuers; and in the £5 house, under the old manual barometer, now a comprehensive semaphore hoard, are two £5 issuers and four £1 issuers. All issuers sell both win and place tickets. F,xeopf. in the outside house, eaeli issuer will he in -charge of a. single seller. In the outside house the issuers will serve two windows each. Members of tlm selling staff are being instructed in relavs in the handling of the issuers.
