SAVAGES ABROAD
VISIT TO WANGANUI WARM HOSPITALITY Three car loads of members of the Gisborno Savage Club made a, wwk-end raid on the hapu of the Wanganui tribe, and spent a. most, enjoyable time. Leaving Gisborne on Friday the local party made Palmerston North their first stopping place, and on the Saturday morning arrived at Wanganui, where a cordial welcome awaited the visitors. Saturday turned out a wet day and although a pleasant drive, round the city was arranged, the many charming sights could not be seen at. their best, but. the visitors got a good idea of the layout of the city and its environment. The Wanganui Savages were holding their last korero- of the season, and in response to an invitation the Gisborne club contributed the whole of the programme excepting the orchestral items, which were supplied by the Wanganui club's own orchestra.
The rangatira, Dr. Adams, presided at the opening of the korero, and had with him on the dias Colonel "A. E. Loach, bon secretary of the Associated Kindred Clubs of New Zealand, who made a special trip from Christchureh to attend this korero. The rangatira of the Gisborne Savage Club, S'avage W. J. ception, and the programme' went with a, fine swing from start to finish, after which an adjournment was made to the supper-room, where the Gisbornites enjoyed tliQ hospitality and goodfellowsuii> ol ilicir . un_,a.nii conneits. Each Gisborne Savage was presented with a souvenir of the occasion by Dr. Adams, who also presented a large bound volume of Savage lore to be kept ill the archives of the Gisborne club.
