NOISELESS AERO FACTORY
SOUND-PROOF BUILDING
LONDON, Aug. 18,
The* elimination of noise, which has caused complaints from residents near many aero-engine factories in this country, has 1 been achieved in the new Alvis aero engine works recently built and opened at Coventry. Here, by the special construction oi the buildings, which cost £20.000, it is possible to test engines up to 25C0 horsepower without any noise being heard outside the works.
A special type of engine.-testing plant enables power units to be subjected to the effect of wind resistances varying from 70 to 2CO miles on hour. Two distinct types of engines are now in production, one of 1400 horse-power and the other of ICOO horse-power. Eventually the works are expected to provide employment for a considerable number of highly skilled craftsmen.
