Judge 11. P. Wood, chief justice of American Samoa, arrived at Auckland on Friday on a visit to New Zealand. The Rt. Hon. Sir Michael and Lady Myers are travelling by the Rangitiki, which is due at Wellington on October 21 from London.

Mr. E. K. .Hinder, formerly manager of the Napier branch of the Bank of Australasia and for the past three years manager of the Te Aroha branch, has received notice of bis promotion to the managership of the bank's Newtown (Sydney) branch. '

Mr. C. K. Lowe has arranged to leave Gisborne this week to take up a new position in New Plymouth. He has been on the engineer's staff of the Cook County Council during the past few years, being formerly engaged with the Public Works Department in the draughting office. The Minister of Public W.orks, the Hon. R. Semplo, is shortly to visit Hawke's Bay to confer with the Hawke's Bay County Council regarding the cancellation of its tar-sealing programme and also to deal with the trouble which has arisen at the Mohaka Viaduct.

After four months as placement officer for the Labour Department in Auckland, Mr. 11. J. Gillmore has relinquished the position to take over the duties of general secretary of the New Zealand Territorial Association. He will bo.succeeded by Mr. S. 0. Waller, who has been attached to the employment section of the department in Wellington and Taumarunui. Mr. O. N. T. Greenbank has arrived in Auckland to join the staff of King's College, after an absence of eight years in England. He left New Zealand after taking his 15. A. degree and entered Cambridge University, where he took the mathematical tripos and later graduated M.A. For the last four years he has been mathematics master at Seaford College, Sussex. Formorly a well-known hockey player in Auckland, Mr. Greenbank played with considerable success in England and for several seasons was a regular member of the Sussex County i side.
