POVERTY BAY CLUB TOURNAMENT PROGRESS STABLEFORD UOGEY PLAY Progress with tournaments was made mi Saturday on the Poverty Hay Goll Club's links, all four competitions being carried to the semi-final stage, and I lie finalists being selected in one of the four. A comparatively small number of players were engaged in the tournament play, however, and a Stablcford bogey match was arranged for the general membership, a total of 43 cards being taken out. During the week-end. the final of the A handicap tournament was played olf oy A. F. Houston and E. T. Brosnahan. the former winning, 4 and 3. The Mclldowic handicap tournament was finalised, J. W. Parker defeating 15. Kemp. 3 and 1VISIT TO WAIROA During the week-end 23 players from the Poverty Hay club visited Wairoa. and played a series of matches on an inter-club basis, the day being a most enjoyable one. A limited competition between the irst 12 from each club was won by Poverty Hay. the Ryder Cup being handed over with due ceremony (o the visitors after they had shown a. margin if one game in the competition. In the general inter-club competition, the home club scored a win. Before the Poverty Bay players returned home, their thanks to the host club were expressed by Mr. N. If. Bull, who also congratulated the Wairoa players on their sternly improvement in the'standard of play. Mr. R. Mowat, on ■•lvlf of the Wairoa players, thanked the Poverty Bay players for their visit. and remarked that any improvement in playing standards at Wairoa had been contributed to in a large measure by the exchange of visits with the Poverty Bay club.
