LOVELOCK DEFEATED
PRINCETON MILE RUN KANSAS STUDENT WINS FINAL SPURT SUPERIOR (Elec. Tel. Copyright.—United Press Assn.) PRINCETON, Oct. 3. The Olympic champion, Lovelock, failed in probably his last assault on the world mile record to-day, for Archie San Romani, a young Kansas College student, won the event handily, five yards ahead of the groat Now Zealand runner and 15 yards in front of Cunningham, Lovelock was in the lead at tho» halfmile and appeared to be a sure winner, but suddenly Romani spurted and gained a yard lead. Near the finish. Lovelock made an attempt at his famous final sprint, but Romani's sprint was stronger and he gained four yeards in the last 200 yards. Romani's time was 4 minutes 9 seconds.
